Daily Photo #141 - Random bridge and this morning

The red bridge at Punggol

Skated with J couple weeks back and totally forgot that I took this shot. I also totally forgot that I have a blog. The feel to type things down that happens daily has pretty much died. It's not that there aren't any interesting things happening at all; it's just so specific that everything feels like an inside joke.

I'm also losing my motivation to do/learn things inside of camp. The mundaneness of life has totally taken control over me and I feel like I'm just looking forward to the weekends where I do nothing at all and just lie down.

Anyway, my life has been pretty occupied by table tennis right now. Skipping work left and right thanks to training and shit. The official competition is this week, pray that I don't fight some YOG player and get owned. (seems like the trend for me these days)

Express way

Shot the above picture while I was travelling to Yishun Sports Hall for my training today. This month marks the one year anniversary since I've enlisted in the army; a super wordy post in the writing but it seems to be taking forever for me to have the mood to complete it.

Oh right, hit a milestone last week. Finally passed my IPPT. I know I know, physical strength really aint' my forte. (more of finesse and skill, hah!)

On a random note, I can't believe that it's already end of June, and yet I could scroll down to see a post back from March. Well, as much as I don't want this blog to be all about my army life, I guess there's no helping it if that's all I'm doing, right?

I just love this scene

I've lost count of how many times I've been to this park, it gets a little dull but I think my pictures are getting better if ever so slightly.

2011_1
2011_2
2012

There are other many other occasions where I've been there but the pictures are kind of meh; so I'll leave them out.

Well anyway I went there with my bunk mates 2 weeks ago, for no particular reason. I'm sure we'll get sick of each others' faces by the time we ORD though. Skated under a drizzle and I was so afraid I was going to fall.

Which I did, but not badly, just because of a stupid wire that I tripped over when moving backwards. That was embarrassing. Ate at Mad Jack afterwards!

cheezy fries

sound blue mountain beef burger

I realized that it has been 5 months since I've posted a daily* photo post...

Well I'm flying off to Bangkok next week so I would definitely take a bunch of photos, with my phone. Sadly my Sony camera has been out of commission for quite awhile and I'm just too damn lazy to service it.

I also can't remember the last time that I blogged 2 days consecutively. Speaking of which I'm getting a bit bored of this layout, which is why I plan to revamp it in the foreseeable future! Largely due to a random web coding job I did for a friend. (web)

Well I'm planning to do something somewhat similar but a whole lot more, elegant. But for now, I'm just looking forward to the little getaway next week.

Daily Photo #139 - Film Cameras
Sunday, December 29, 2013

FED 5B (russian)

I have some time before I book in again, so I decided to take some shots and further test out my Xperia Z1. It's amazing to see how much cellphone cameras have improved in a couple of years.

Anyway... my bro likes taking photos too. And he acquired these two film cameras some time ago, which made me green with envy. Not that they are really expensive or what. But well, it takes a bit of commitment to go into film cameras, not something I can easily do seeing that I came from the digital era.
p.s. my bro is almost 10 years older than me so... yeah

Btw these are really old cameras that he bought 2nd hand. Both which are manufactured in the 1980s.

I think I missed my focus here...

Love the orange accents

Oh yeah, give those artificial grain some lovin'

The FEB 5B is actually kind of a clone of the legendary Leica cameras, which explain why it looks so friggin' similar. It was a poor man's Leica back in those days.

Canon A-1

The frontal assault

Who doesn't love some sexy dials?

Vintage cameras just looks so sexy, not like any of the plastic bullshit we get these days. These old cameras are made of solid metal so there's some heft when carrying them. The marvel of camera engineering seated comfortably in your hands.

Maybe one of these days I'll borrow from my bro to actually go out and shoot something. Developing them will be a pain though. Ah well, I'll just be satisfied with my phone camera for now.

Daily Photo #138 - Wow when was the last time
Friday, December 27, 2013

Fish n' Chips while I'm sick probably isn't a great idea
Headed down to AMK to play pool with my bunk buddies yesterday. It has been forever since I took pictures for the sake of taking it man. So uh, everything is shot on my phone; wanted to test out it's low light performance, and it did pretty well!

Fierce

Hand held, I'm a giant btw.

I like this shot idk why
Anyway it has been one week since I fell sick and I still haven't fully recover yet. This is really really getting on my nerves. I hope it totally goes away tomorrow, I want to play some balls man! (basketball)

Hopefully I will also be able to take some interesting shots tomorrow and uh, hopefully go skate in the evening and bask in the setting sun. Life has been really uneventful lately. Maybe I should start making things happen rather than waiting for some shit to burst out.

In any case, been rather hard at work with my coding stuff. Hopefully I can show it off soon; been testing quite a lot of new things!

Daily Photo #137 - Road to school

Nostalgia

Went back to my Alma mater on Saturday, at a freakishly early 9:30 am. There was a drizzle throughout the morning which explains the wet floor.

What the hell was I doing there at such an early timing? Soccer. Against our juniors, many of whom I've never seen before. They're only a couple years younger and have all graduated. Well, I said I went for soccer, but I didn't actually play it. No, it's not because I'm a bench warmer, but because I didn't exactly want to play. (and we had more than enough people)

I should probably start by explaining that we played basketball on Thursday. After lying around for a week, suddenly sprinting around at full speed pretty much killed my thighs. I went for soccer more or less for moral support, or just in case someone sprained their ankle or something.

We won though, 7 : 5
Most of which can be largely be attributed to my cheering, obviously.

Speaking about cheering, it was... more or random screaming and shouting. Because it was just too hilarious to watch. Within the first 3 minutes, the score was already 1 : 1. My team's MVP shouted at the opponents, "First to 11 wins!"

The game was funny because our goal keeper did a hat-trick, on himself. Words can't explain the blunders he made, but we weren't exactly mad at him; He hasn't played for a really long time after all. But still, the mistakes were nothing short of hilarious. There were times he dropped the ball as if his gloves were made of oil, and the most epic mistake was him pushing the ball up like volleyball, pushing the ball behind him, right into the net.

Man, I nearly died laughing.

All in all, it was a pretty good game. It's damn funny when our team shouts, "CHIONG AH!" and the mid fielders and forwards just scramble ahead like bulls. There was also a lot of needless shouting to intimidate the opponents, and it actually worked. Well, they are younger after all.

I did take a couple of shots after the game, just testing if I still got it or not. And yeah, I surprised myself and my friends that I could pull off some decent shots, not just half-assed ones, then I got scolded immediately for being a lazy fuck and not joining the game.

There are many things I left out as I was just typing with the flow of the post. I'm too lazy to edit them into perfectly readable paragraphs so I'm just going to speed through them.

The road to school has changed. There weren't trees, nor where there so many buildings around. Just a flat grassland, which has disappeared along the years. I can't believe I climbed the freaking hill for so many years at 7+ in the morning. Yes, my school sits on top of a hill. I regret not taking more pictures of the school before leaving, oh well. It's annoying how they built a perfect soccer field right after we graduate. All we had back in the days was a barren field primary made of dust, and weeds.

Damn, I feel so old.

Daily Photo #136 - Korean BBQ
Friday, April 05, 2013

All meat galore

I think Daily Photo kinda lost it's meaning. But oh well I think I'm starting to have a little more mood to take pictures.

Korean BBQ Buffet, located at Tampines T1, 4th floor, beside Challenger. I totally forgot what it's called. But it's relatively cheap, ended around $16.50 per person. However, and it is a huge however, you have a 2 hour time limit. Which isn't very strictly enforced I think?

My awesome creation

I have created the most awesome roll ever.
It's Teriyaki Chicken, wrapped in Bacon Strip, wrapped in Thin Pork Belly.

It tastes pretty darn good, less could be said about the ability to eat it without making a fool of yourself. It's too much to stuff in one go, and not enough structural integrity to sustain being bitten. It was awesome eating nothing but meat, the only complain I had was that the chopsticks were really hard to use. It's thin, but not over all, it's thin like it's flat. So if you had a cross-section diagram it'll look like a rectangle rather than a square.

Hung out at K's before heading for Basketball. Now I'm sore all over and practically didn't move at all today. Man, I'm definitely not looking forward to soccer tomorrow.

Daily Photo #135 - Best Pasta ever
Sunday, January 20, 2013

I am not dead, in fact I am far from being dead.

I've just been bombarded with so many projects and really close deadlines that I haven't had the time to write anything. Also because my resting time is obviously spent on shows or maybe a couple of games.

I went over to my friend's house to rush a project yesterday, and his mum made the best pasta I've ever eaten in my entire life. We pretty much ate the same thing for lunch and dinner, thanks so much!

The sauce is godly. It's tomato based, but it's not full tomato, there's like chili and minced meat among other things, it was just really good.

I feel like work is all I ever talk about recently, but I have 2 projects deadline this week. Another 2 that needs presenting/showing progress report. 1 concept paper that was just submitted. All the projects requires a heck lot of time to accomplish, so I'm pretty drained mentally.

Damn, need to spend a little more time writing here.

Daily Photo #134 - Gooey porridge
Thursday, January 17, 2013

Cooked for myself again, le sigh.
So.... I fell sick.

And what better food for a sick person than some really gooey porridge. Dropped an egg in it which explains the colour. Well, skipped school today. Hopefully I will be alive enough to go tomorrow.

Played a few games of Dota 2, totally drained me. Then pretty much watched chuck for the rest of the day. Need to get a grip on myself and start clearing out the piles of work. Well anyway, not in the mood to write, maybe I'll finally write about the keyboard tomorrow.

Daily Photo #133 - Breakfast for me

Yes, it's on the floor. I was waiting for the toaster
So... had some bacon and eggs this morning.  "Fried" the majority of bacon because it's just so much faster, it became a little too crispy though.

The last 2 pieces

Tried toasting bacon for the first time

need to work on my arrangement skills

I've never tried toasting bacon, but god does it taste good. I think that I will never fry bacon in a wok ever again. It's just so more juicy to simply toast it.

Still, bacon is really just a craving that I get from time to time. It is so ridiculously salty, I have no idea how epic meal time eat it all the time, or maybe I should've used more bread instead.

Simple as it may be, it's rather enjoyable to cook once in awhile. (unless some chick is willing.... hints*)
I don't know man, it's rather satisfying to make something edible. Maybe I'll cook for myself more often in the future, it's really not that hard to whip something up in minutes. Just have to dig deep for ingredients.

We'll see, maybe some fried noodles in the future. I kind of have a craving for that.

Forever young

So... finally went for medical checkup. The saddest part of a Singaporean male's life is about to begin relatively shortly, this is the first step.

The checkup was rather painless, apart from drawing of blood. Surprisingly, all of us got PES D for one reason or another. I'm going to have to head back there again next week. Such a hassle.

For all those that haven't went for their checkup yet, fret not. It's very simple and straight forward, with countless topless males wandering around. (it's not as bad as it sounds) The longest section is the IQ test, which really takes quite awhile to complete. A total of 2.5 hours is given for the test.

Fuck the test though. It's not about the difficulty of the question, but rather the ambiguity of the instruction/question. Also, the question will forward itself without warning if you spend too much time trying to figure it out. More than once has it switch the screen the moment I got the answer. (they provide pen and paper for workings)

Either way, I'm not looking forward to the next 2 years of my life. Let's hope it wouldn't be as bad as I think it'll be.

Daily Photo #131 - Empty Bowling Alley
Thursday, November 22, 2012

I went bowling with D the other day when our friends abandoned us for a movie. It's been forever since I went back to the school's bowling alley. Well, it was renovating for quite some time. I think the last time I was there was probably last year. It has been such a long time.

It's rather nostalgic. Sadly, due to my absence from bowling for such a long time, my scores are not even close to where I used to be. And I nearly injured my arm in the process of spinning the stupid ball. Still, it was a really interesting experience as I don't think I've ever played bowling with one person before.

For some reason, I don't seem to have the time to do things I used to do these days. It has the be the games (dota2). Which I should probably take a break from and catch up with my own activities.

Daily Photo #130 - Gardens by the Bay pano
Wednesday, November 07, 2012

This is the last one I promise. Just one of the panoramic shots that I wasn't done editing the other day. I really love taking panoramic shots.

Life has been boring. Wake up early, squeeze with peak hour crowd, have lessons till evening, squeeze with evening crowd, reach home use com, watch show fall asleep. And the cycle repeats. Though I'm going for a quick shopping trip tomorrow, in hopes of making myself look presentable on Friday, let's see how it'll go!

Daily Photo #128 - Disassembling Acer laptops
Saturday, November 03, 2012

He seems to be having fun

Sadly, there are only two pictures, or maybe it's fortunately. Because Acer laptops are a major pain to open up. It's almost impossible to put it back together. In fact I think that it would be impossible for a normal geek unless you have the right tools to stick all the connectors together again. And I can't believe I totally forgot to take a show with all the parts disassembled. Oh well, there'll be a next time.

Oh, the story. My friend's laptop went kaput on him. He wanted to try opening it up, so I was there to  help if there are places where he can't open. It was a major waste of time, but oh well other friends came over and hung out too.

Of course, at the end of this, we threw the board away. Not because it is useless, but because the effort I'm going to spend figuring out how to get it back working, is not worth it. I rather spent some money and get a new board with everything labelled with manual, yes, always RTFM.

Till then, I need to use my energy on something more productive.

#Daily Photo 127 - 2 KFC Family Feast

Before

After

Went over to my friend's house at Boon Lay, which is literally at the other end of Singapore. Hung out, played games and shit. It was amusing as his mum is OCD about cleanliness, and everything in the house looks as good as new.

The fun and games aside, 6 of us myself included, ordered 2 KFC Family Feast for dinner. 1 Feast consists of 8 Piece Chicken, 2 Medium Mash Potato, 1 Coleslaw, 1 Prawn Box thingy, 1 Medium Popcorn Chicken and 4 Drinks.

I was so incredibly tired I could barely finish eating my portion. Of course, with an uneven amount of chicken to distribute, the last 2 piece was quite a problem. The problem is with who's the one getting it, and getting it is a bad thing as we were already rather full. #firstworldproblems Having too much food and not sure who is going to eat it. Whenever I think of the #firstworldproblems, it makes me feel blessed to even have a "problem" like this.

I then decided to take from Boon Lay all the way to Pasir Ris, instead of a shorter alternate route. Why? Just because. I'm going to write about it in a later post.

I am tired as hell, bye.

Daily Photo #126 - Pizza Hut
Friday, October 12, 2012

Smoked chicken

Went to eat Pizza Hut with my classmates the other day. There was this new Hawaiian Special, can't remember the name, but it was delicious. Sadly we dug in like wolves the moment the food was served, which really makes for a lousy picture, so please forgive the lacking image.

The soup looks harmless, but it was bursting with pepper. I can't believe how peppery it tasted. It did not make for a bad soup though, it was just really unexpected.

Of course, chicken drumlets. There can never be anything wrong with them.
Oh, we went to East Coast Park that day, where they cycled and I skated. Honestly there isn't much to write about it, and the pictures from there are getting boring. Just search for ECP or east coast park on my blog and you'll see many posts related to it.

It's the last week of holidays and we're rushing to do as many things as we can before it ends. So my mind's kinda tired and can't really piece the timeline properly. I know there's bowling, basketball, and food and stuffs. I'm going to Sentosa today, so there'll probably be some interesting pictures. Look forward to it!

Daily photo #125 - Holy lamp post
Wednesday, October 03, 2012

Shot this while I was skating with J & B at the Punggol park during evening the other day. Sure, there are some other better, more spectacular shots, but those are getting old as they aren't really that interesting, from my point of view that is.

So I wanted to make it seem like the lamp post has a sun in it. Hope you liked it!

Daily Photo #124 - Stack of ripped paper
Tuesday, October 02, 2012

There is an amusing story behind this.

That neat stack of paper? It's all torn by hand, my hands. Which explains the rough edges. That pile is made from half a piece of A4 paper. Basically I fold it in half, then tear through them. Over and over and over again, until I reach that state and realized that it's pointless. Of course I shouldn't realized that it's pointless long before this point in time.

Then again, I did that while I was watching FRIENDS the other day, since I sat for hours watching a sitcom, I figured it wouldn't hurt for my fingers to get a little exercise on their own, without getting too erotic or anything.

There isn't a point to this, but I find it amusing how I can tear a piece of paper so well.

Daily Photo #123 - F1 Race Car
Monday, October 01, 2012

Since this is post #123 I shall put something interesting.

Singapore has been hosting the night F1 race thingy that I've never really paid much attention to, but I came across this somewhere in Orchard while I was walking and thought that it's a really nice car. I would love to drive one someday, preferably before I'm dead or something.

Well... the end.

Daily Photo #122 - Mid-autumn festival
Sunday, September 30, 2012

This actually happened last night. Below my block there was this celebration that went on from late afternoon all the way till 9pm+.

It was really loud and noisy, which gave me an excellent reason to blast my music and sing my lungs out. Well there are other pictures that I'm lining up.

Haven't been writing due to my unexpectedly busy schedule. Skated for 5+hours the other day, shopped for 8+hours today, watched from season 2 to season 3 of FRIENDS, and well I don't know, time seems to be passing fast when I need it, and go in slow motion when I simply do not want it to.

Probably will have something interesting to write since I'm off tomorrow. Oh, and the results for my selected modules are out, I've gotten Network & Systems this year and I'm on the Systems phase right now. I regret a little not taking security because I'm probably going to further my studies in that area after I graduate. Still, I'm sure I would learn some interesting stuffs. I really need to maintain my enthusiasm for school. I always seem to have the motivation to learn only when it's not forced upon me.

Well, that's all that's happening, too damn tired to write anything else, nights my minions.
