FED 5B (russian)

I have some time before I book in again, so I decided to take some shots and further test out my Xperia Z1. It's amazing to see how much cellphone cameras have improved in a couple of years.

Anyway... my bro likes taking photos too. And he acquired these two film cameras some time ago, which made me green with envy. Not that they are really expensive or what. But well, it takes a bit of commitment to go into film cameras, not something I can easily do seeing that I came from the digital era.
p.s. my bro is almost 10 years older than me so... yeah

Btw these are really old cameras that he bought 2nd hand. Both which are manufactured in the 1980s.

The FEB 5B is actually kind of a clone of the legendary Leica cameras, which explain why it looks so friggin' similar. It was a poor man's Leica back in those days.

Vintage cameras just looks so sexy, not like any of the plastic bullshit we get these days. These old cameras are made of solid metal so there's some heft when carrying them. The marvel of camera engineering seated comfortably in your hands.

Maybe one of these days I'll borrow from my bro to actually go out and shoot something. Developing them will be a pain though. Ah well, I'll just be satisfied with my phone camera for now.

I've recently gotten my hands on SGP Neo Hybrid for Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100. I chose the yellow colour because... the other colours are not as nice and black is out of stock. I got it from online, for roughly SGD 10. There's discounts everywhere as this is already an outdated product. I still love the S2 deeply, and see no reason to switch phones unless it dies.

If you have read my previous post regarding my current SGP Neo Hybrid EX (white), you'll know that I can actually switch the colours around.

Let me lay them out.



The black and yellow is the new one, and the two white ones are the old ones.
I then proceeded to switch them around.




 Well, as expected from SGP cases, everything fits together perfectly and feels really good in my hands. The only complain I have about it is that the rubber is too thick. Though it makes it very comfortable to hold in my hands, the extra border makes it slightly less attractive.

I've decided to stick primarily with the black and yellow combo.


Sadly, I couldn't get a good picture of the screen, but I've themed my Android to be orange. As it's closest to yellow. (Why not yellow? Because it'll be too bright)
I'll just include my current homescreen anyway.



Yes, I know that the homescreen extremely simple. But I don't really use my phone very often these days.


If you're wondering how I themed the dialer, then it's simple. Because I'm using Cyanogenmod 9 at the moment. The inbuilt theme-ing engine makes it relatively straight forward to switch between themes.






There's still one more case that hasn't reached my doorstep yet. It's from a different vendor but with the same concept, I shall wait patiently for it to arrive while I use this yellow case!

My SGP Steinheil Ultra Optics screen protector for Samsung Galaxy S2 finally arrived in my hands today after 17days. It costs SGD $20.

First thought I had when I installed it on my phone was, "Damn, I should've just gotten this from the start"


SGP has a premium screen protector series called Steinheil. I say premium because it's really the better ones you can find, competing against giant brands like Invisishield by Zagg (known for it's durability).

There are 3 types of protectors that they sell
Ultra Crystal
// Best clarity, best looking and easiest to smudge.
Ultra Optic
// Oleophobic coating. Good clarity and resistant to finger prints.
Ultra Fine
// Similar to matte. Decent clarity. Resistant to finger prints.

I chose Ultra Optic because the i9100 has a really good screen, I don't want to cover it up with something that destroys the image. But I hate finger prints as well, so at the very least I want to have as little finger prints as possible.

It performed splendidly.






As it can see, it diffuses the light slightly, which is a good thing as it will be slightly more visible under direct light. The anti-fingerprint coating works magically as well. Sure, it's still possible to get your dirty greasy stains on it if you try hard enough, but from my testing, it will be clean as a slate under normal use.

If you remember, my case is from SGP as well. After buying 2 of their products, I've became a fan of them, it's really premium stuff that's worth the money.

The only downside is that, you probably can't find it in Singapore. It's made in Korea and I can't seem to find any shops that sell their products. (except a few, iPhones) So you'll probably have better luck trying to get them online.

Overall, I'll give it a 9/10!

I'm stuck with what mobile device I should get.

Firstly, I was met with this fundamental problem. Phone? Or tablet? I was considering a tablet cause, well, it's a lot easier to surf on a tablet than on a phone, and if I had a tablet, I probably wouldn't need a good phone. So, I could use my plan to get my mum a new phone, since she's using my old N97 mini.

The problem with that scenario is that, the iPad2 costs $848. And my mum is a failure at technology so it would probably kill her brains if she had to learn how to use a new phone.

I've asked a few friends and most of them told me, go for the phone! 

So I thought about the phone. Let me list down the phones that interests me.

HTC Titan


Pros:
- 4.7" display
- Windows Phone 7.5
- Fast
- Beautiful

Cons:
- 512MB ram
- NOT AVAILABLE IN SOUTHEAST ASIA
- Low resolution screen

Samsung Galaxy SII


Pros:
- 4.3" Super AMOLED+ display
- Dual-core 1.2GHz Exynos CPU
- Beautiful

Cons:
- 6 months old
- The shiny rim looks crappy
- Good build, but doesn't feel solid enough
- 480x800 resolution


Nokia Lumia 800
Pros:
- 3.7" Clearblack Display
- 1.4GHz single core
- Windows Phone 7.5
- Beautiful (stunning actually)
- Very solid build quality

Cons:
- No NFC
- No internet tethering
- Not available yet. (soon, in the coming weeks)
- 512MB ram

Samsung Galaxy Nexus
Pros:
- Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0
- Official Google phone
- 4.65" Super AMOLED display
- Dual-core 1.2GHz TI OMAP 4460 CPU
- 1280x720 HD resolution

Cons:
- Not available yet
- Probably expensive
- 5mp camera

Nokia N9
Pros:
- Fast
- Unique
- GORGEOUS
- Meego

Cons:
- Meego (great, but abandoned)
- Low app choice

Please, I need some advice. Or just opinion, just give me some friggin opinions. 

I don't care if you tell me through facebook, twitter, msn, comment, sms, call, whatever. Just TELL ME. Gawd!!

As you can see. I opened my phone completely, did not disconnect the internals as it will be a pain to put everything back. I was just checking for defects/etc. Things that I can easily fix. But. Hahhaha. I'm so screwed. Turns out, I can't.

There is something wrong with the USB connector. Cannot charge, cannot connect to computer. Now accidentally do smth wrong, also cannot boot up to main screen. epic fail.

I'm at a loss as the only way to save it is to solder some stuffs on it. And I reaaaally have no confidence in my soldering skills. So... sad to say, but I'll have to go send it for repair. No smart phoney stuffs for the next couple of days I guess! Sighhhh.

At least I tried.
