So... I was walking home today. My phone (Samsung Galaxy S2) happened to have it's wifi turned on. When I passed by a playground nearby, I suddenly realized that my phone is connected to a network. I quickly opened up the settings to check if I connected to a random open network. I am paranoid and I'm afraid someone is trying to hack it or anything.

Lo and behold! I was connected to my room's wifi connection. I am roughly 33.7 meters away from my room. Using rough estimates of my apartment's height and distance from the block, calculated using Pythagoras theorem. (it is finally useful in something practical)

Holymotherofballs. I couldn't believe that actually happened. I'm sorry for not having screenshots, I'll do some testing another day so bear with the wordy representations.

Connected with a good link, probably with 40% strength. Hovering 15~26mbps bandwidth. Ran a speedtest, which thankfully has it's results saved in my phone.



The first results on top, 7.26mbps down, 6.91mbps up. I could maybe get a stable 1MB/s download if I tried positioning myself a little better. (note the amazing 12ms latency)

How does this happen? 2 things mainly.
Line-of-Sight and Fresnel Zone. 

My room was facing towards the location I was coming from, with only 1 wall separating the connection, I have a decent enough LOS. There weren't any trees or EMI materials blocking the "zone" where the connection is made. I've also configured my router to be pumping up at the maximum legal limit of 100mw through it's antennas. It's a low gain 3dB antenna so it could actually be a lot better once I've changed them.

Also, because I could walk anywhere I wanted, I can finally observe the "shape" of the signal outputted by an omni-directional antenna.

It was extremely amusing to see the things I learned last year being put into practice. I suddenly gain a new perspective on a lot of things that I've been spending my time reading. I don't really know how to put it into words but it's like, things just made a lot more sense to me right now.

I was so excited I started calling up my friends and telling them about my discovery. I am so pumped with motivation I want to get so much equipment and start experimenting with them all around the place! It's like, finally something geeky that I could do outdoors! This is definitely a first for me who's used to staying cooped up inside the room while doing my own "research/studying". One of these days, I'm going to bring my laptop down and start doing some tests of my own.

Though everything is great and amazing, I noticed something worrying. What I've learned in school is that you should never allow your wifi to extend to places you don't intend to be used, for security reasons. Yet, almost anyone could get a lock-on on my signal, even from hundreds of meters away if they used the right equipment. This is definitely worrying for me.

Also, I am sorry to all the residents around here. Even though I picked up a lot of signals while I was downstairs, I definitely noticed my signal even though it's broadcasted from very far away. I am probably affecting some unfortunate person's wifi signal. I will try to reduce interference once I'm good enough at this, so till then, I shall keep experimenting with things like these!

I've recently gotten my hands on SGP Neo Hybrid for Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100. I chose the yellow colour because... the other colours are not as nice and black is out of stock. I got it from online, for roughly SGD 10. There's discounts everywhere as this is already an outdated product. I still love the S2 deeply, and see no reason to switch phones unless it dies.

If you have read my previous post regarding my current SGP Neo Hybrid EX (white), you'll know that I can actually switch the colours around.

Let me lay them out.



The black and yellow is the new one, and the two white ones are the old ones.
I then proceeded to switch them around.




 Well, as expected from SGP cases, everything fits together perfectly and feels really good in my hands. The only complain I have about it is that the rubber is too thick. Though it makes it very comfortable to hold in my hands, the extra border makes it slightly less attractive.

I've decided to stick primarily with the black and yellow combo.


Sadly, I couldn't get a good picture of the screen, but I've themed my Android to be orange. As it's closest to yellow. (Why not yellow? Because it'll be too bright)
I'll just include my current homescreen anyway.



Yes, I know that the homescreen extremely simple. But I don't really use my phone very often these days.


If you're wondering how I themed the dialer, then it's simple. Because I'm using Cyanogenmod 9 at the moment. The inbuilt theme-ing engine makes it relatively straight forward to switch between themes.






There's still one more case that hasn't reached my doorstep yet. It's from a different vendor but with the same concept, I shall wait patiently for it to arrive while I use this yellow case!

My SGP Steinheil Ultra Optics screen protector for Samsung Galaxy S2 finally arrived in my hands today after 17days. It costs SGD $20.

First thought I had when I installed it on my phone was, "Damn, I should've just gotten this from the start"


SGP has a premium screen protector series called Steinheil. I say premium because it's really the better ones you can find, competing against giant brands like Invisishield by Zagg (known for it's durability).

There are 3 types of protectors that they sell
Ultra Crystal
// Best clarity, best looking and easiest to smudge.
Ultra Optic
// Oleophobic coating. Good clarity and resistant to finger prints.
Ultra Fine
// Similar to matte. Decent clarity. Resistant to finger prints.

I chose Ultra Optic because the i9100 has a really good screen, I don't want to cover it up with something that destroys the image. But I hate finger prints as well, so at the very least I want to have as little finger prints as possible.

It performed splendidly.






As it can see, it diffuses the light slightly, which is a good thing as it will be slightly more visible under direct light. The anti-fingerprint coating works magically as well. Sure, it's still possible to get your dirty greasy stains on it if you try hard enough, but from my testing, it will be clean as a slate under normal use.

If you remember, my case is from SGP as well. After buying 2 of their products, I've became a fan of them, it's really premium stuff that's worth the money.

The only downside is that, you probably can't find it in Singapore. It's made in Korea and I can't seem to find any shops that sell their products. (except a few, iPhones) So you'll probably have better luck trying to get them online.

Overall, I'll give it a 9/10!

Shot with SGS II

I really like this shot. (click on it)

Mainly because of the reflections off the buildings and the top of the cars. Just enough detail to make out what everything is, but still enough to keep it near black. My pictures are lokoing more like paintings these days.

Exercised again today. Feeling pretty lethargic right now. Nothing in particular is whizzing in my head except for some music. Oh well, hope you like the shot.

I took this at Punggol when I went prawning the other time.

Well, I'm really tired right now. Probably going to skip school tomorrow, it's the last day anyway. Well, I hope to take more interesting shots in the days to come.

I took a random speed test this morning as I was reading about networks and stuffs.

Unbelievably, I scored a 622.7KB/s for my download. Of course, it's rather early and there probably isn't a lot of people using the network so it'll be fast (yes, it works that way). Still, I'm really amazed by it. The highest I've ever gotten is roughly 500KB/s.

Ah, technology. Making me feel happier and happier each and everyday.

Super flare!

Went with my skate mates to East Coast Park. It was raining practically the entire day today, so we bowled in the beginning. Without a doubt I kicked all of their asses.


Sadly this was the only picture I took since we were too busy shooting balls into the alley.

HELL YEAH! My phone have finally came back to daddy :D Okay, it was pretty fast, it took them 3 days to repair the USB port, which, well, frankly isn't that hard but still, I commend them for their effort in repairing their Lord's tools.

The only annoying part is that, the S charges from the top, while the S2 charges from the bottom. Not that it's that bad or what but, you know, I could see how this could prove to be a logistic problem for me when I keep alternating between them.

So.. Well, you could tell that this was a rushed post. 2 labtests tomorrow. Time for some last minute cramming. Then, if I have the time, play with my phones.

Oh you noticed that extra S? Well, Galaxy S. Galaxy S2. You get the drift.
OH I'M LOVING IT! PHONES BABAE, PHONE(S)!

Love the idea

Again, this is taken with my S2. I think it turned out pretty well.

It's currently being displayed at the library near Colours. Or near T4 if you're more familiar with blocks. At the first floor connector to Colours. So yeah, do take a look cause I think it looks gorgeous.

I really love the idea of hanging photos. And they pulled it off splendidly. Sadly though, I did not take more pictures as I was kind of on the way home and just happen to see it.

Again, the writer part of my seems to be asleep. Writer's block? Let's hope this drought will end soon.

Looking at the sky in school

My best shot yet with the new Galaxy S2. 

Yeah, I'm quite lazy to bring my camera out these few days. Cause, my bag's usually kinda full with shit and I don't wanna make it bloated.

I think this is getting boring. Everyday I complain that I don't have the time to blog because I'm too busy with different stuffs. I mean, what the fuck can I be so busy with? Let me just break it down for you so it's easier to understand why I'm always whining. It's not that I have any pressing matters to attend to, but it's kind of my routine.

When I get home, I turn on my com (yes, right away), and check all my social feeds. Scrolling through really quickly for any interesting videos or images. (only for fb). Then I'll settle all of them. This doesn't take very long.

Then, I would check out all my tech geek websites. Roughly 6 of them. This takes a rather long time. Because I will link here and there to learn different stuffs.

Then, I will open up all my anime/shows tabs to see if anything is released.

Then, I will quickly look around youtube, and other websites, and just scrounge the web for interesting videos. Watching them takes a while.

Then, I will look through the pictures that I've taken that day, provided that I've taken any.

Also, if anyone talked to me online, or if I talked to anyone online, it will slow down my entire routine.

All of these, and I haven't even watched any anime/shows yet. Only youtube vids and stuffs. Now, if I decide to watch anything, that's more or less it for the day. Else, I'll have the time like right now, to blog about whatever things that came into my life. Which, after this, I must follow it up with revision for the quiz tomorrow. 

NOW. I still haven't have my dinner. So, I'm hungry, tired, and short of time. Oh also, I usually reach home in the evenings these days.

Thankgod I finally sent my phone for repair. Oh well, still have more things to do. Farewell my fellow minions!

p.s. I think I should end all my posts with that from now on. Since I'm the Lord after all.

Samsung Galaxy SII

The awesome galaxy S2.

Finally got my hands on it after so many months. Before I get into the details, if you're thinking the image in the middle of the screen is some ridiculously artistic effect, let me spoil it for you. It's my fingers, holding the camera. Now, what is that white stuff on top of the camera/lens? That's the flash, now, why does the flash look like that? Because I diffused it using toilet paper.

MIND = BLOWN

Now moving on to the phone.

Original Galaxy S on the left, S2 on the right

I chose it over the Lumia 800 mainly because

1. It's available right now.
2. Android, my info is all synced up
3. It is more future proof (in terms of specs)
4. It has a larger display
5. Ice Cream Sandwich is out



I would say that number 2 is my main reason. I realized that it's really troublesome to migrate everything over. It's not too hard, but it's going to require quite a bit of effort to get everything synced up again. I also did a table last night on my awesome whiteboard listing down all the pros and cons, and after going through several times, yes. The S2 is my choice after all.

The interesting thing is this.

No unboxing video, fortunately.

The original Galaxy S box, is larger than the S2 even though the screen size is smaller. I must say, they have gotten pretty darn efficient at packing phones up, so much so that it's not very easy to open it.

I feel like my life is complete again. Though I might have lingering thoughts about the exquisite Lumia, I think I'm better off sticking with this great choice. Oh, it costs $368 with a 2year contract, yes, it's quite expensive, but I wouldn't mind spending a little extra on a device I'm spending 2 years with.
