Even though nothing particularly good or bad happened yesterday, apparently it was enough to entertain me throughout, causing me to totally forget about blogging.

Why was yesterday good?
Because I had a good balance of everything in life.

I went to school and studied what I loved. Played truancy and skipped a class. Had lunch with friends in school. Continued to do my FYP with my teammate, making great progress. Had a decent dinner,watched a show. Then played games with friends before sleeping.

I don't know man, maybe everyone lives like this all the time, but I don't. It has been a long time since I've had such good balance in my life. Working, rebelling, socializing, playing.

So a mini-rant about my FYP. Finally implemented the Halal / Non-Halal option. Search is working with proper error handling. The only annoying thing is that the Halal option doesn't stick throughout the entire app. You have to toggle it every time.

This has been really hard. I have to use like 4 programming languages to make this work. Java, HTML5, MySQL, PHP. (I'm trying to avoid Javascript for now) Sadly, only Java and SQL being taught in school. Also, having to set up my own servers is a pain.

However, thanks this I'm getting exposed to more stuff, and I'm loving my desktop more and more as it takes all the work I throw at it and churn it down like tofu. Well, I'll just end it off with the ridiculously long list of food in Food Court 3.

it's a sausage fest

This was a really last minute decision.

The day started early as I had to head to school to show my In-Charge the progress of our FYP. Which didn't take very long as we haven't really figured out one major part of the project. But the rest of it is done, somehow, in one way or another. There'll be more about it in the future. So my teammate came over and we did whatever we could, before B came over and asked me to check his router.

Which turned out to be perfectly fine. Long story short, we'll have to wait until tomorrow to see if the problem is his house or not. (probably is)

Just another thought I had right before I fall asleep.

I was just wondering how to be happier in life. The age long question that everyone wants the answer for. Of course, I often pondered over this mundane question, usually ending with rather depressing answers. For example, you have to be sad to be happy. Similar to the quote, "You have to fall to learn how to stand."

There just isn't such thing as eternal bliss. At some point in time that bliss will become just another hell hole. This was when i realized that nothing is eternal. Or rather, anything good that lasts too long will eventually turn bad. Which brought me to a whole new level of understanding of the phrase, nothing lasts forever.

So, how can one be happy? 
You simply need to obtain the power to do whatever you want, whenever you want to.

If Biology is ultimately about having sex and not dying, then life I think, is ultimately about doing what you want without dying. If there is anyone who knows about doing what you want without any consideration for the people around you, you have to crown the insane people as king. Sure, they might have their own little problems going on inside their head, but in the end they could do things without empathy for others. What about all the other normal  people? We stick closely to our morals and ethics, making sure our actions do not to cause discomfort to the people around us. How happy could we be?

When I think about it this way, I feel that humans are truly happy only when they're selfish and tyrannical. In our defense, we're animals after all. I'm not insinuating that we should lose our minds or behave like an animal, but you know, our happiness are pretty much bounded by our intelligence.

Sometimes I wonder, maybe I would be happier if I were crazy.

My brother found out that there's not enough space in his cupboard, so he started to take things out to clear some space. He realized that he had years of phone boxes stored inside. So I decided to take out my collection as well, so that we can take a nice phone family picture then throw them away, except the newer ones of course.

Technically a Galaxy Tab is not a phone. But oh well, it's a mobile device so whatever.

yeah I know my table's really messy.

Not the most flattering shot of my working area, but you know, not the main point of my illustration.

To all my friends that I've been neglecting, This is what I'm busy with. I recently bought a NAS, and sadly I'm not ready to write a review yet. The model is Western Digital My Book  Live Duo which cost me a heart breaking $509. It's a 4TB NAS that holds 2 2TB drives.

I still have another 250GB and 500GB drives chucked somewhere, but well, those are for another day.

Even though it's nothing worth bragging about, I just got really amused when I open up my computer and saw this.

The 1.8TB is just total capacity. Both drives total only 1.8TB

It's that geek excitement you get when you manage to set up everything perfectly.

What's the point of all these?
Basically, I've gotten a hard drive, for the network. So,
I can share files with the entire house effortlessly.
I can create users and passwords.
I can assign folders for people in the house.
I can stream media on any device from the network.

I watched this last week. Was supposed to write about it but I guess it slipped my mind while I was writhing in joy.

This film was shot in 1961. But trust me, it's good. If you like musicals that is. Even if you don't, please, have a watch, it'll change your world!


Took a couple of screen shots because I simply love the way they did the film. It's literally an art piece, the way the things are shot. It's like they planned every scene as a picture, not a film.

"Did I mention that the actress is ridiculously beautiful?"

Throughout the show I felt like it has a striking resemblance to Romeo and Juliet, after a simple search, found out that it was indeed inspired from R&J. Guess you can never go wrong with a classic.

It's about the little things in life that counts. The little little things that makes you happy. For example, this morning, I woke up 5 mins before my alarm, and I felt refreshed. It brightened up my day, in it's own tiny little ways. I want to collect all the little things in life that makes people happy.

What's the point of this?

When I'm feeling down, I want to have a place to go to, to remind myself that sometimes it's not the big things in life that makes all the difference. Sometimes, it's just the tiny things that lights a smile on your face. I want to bring that feeling to other people too!

Maybe a month or two down the road, I could read back on all the posts, smiling about the little awesome things that made me happy.



Hopefully it'll succeed this time. As they said, the third time is the charm.

Looking out of the Suntec Tower

Both photos shot on my phone. 

It's only the 26th storey, but it does give a pretty spectacular view. Sadly though, this is not the view from where I sat, but from another room in the office. I mean, if I were to be greeted by this everyday, I probably wouldn't mind going to work for a month.

I think that the top photo looks more pleasant, but I prefer the bottom one.

I just lost my reason to live.
Yes I'm asian. 

I mean, as a student in Singapore, school holidays can only mean 2 things.

#1 Projects, or homework, or just tons of shit related to school.

#2 Boredom. You realize you have so much time on hand you can't think of any way to use them without feeling like an idiot wasting his time.

Once in a blue moon, you encounter a situation which gives you the best of both worlds; or the worst of it if you want to look at it that way. Enter, me! I have roughly 1 ~ 2 weeks of time before my internship at some random company at a random location chosen randomly by my school.

ROARRRRR!

What the hell is that disgusting looking thing?!

Yeah it's a prawn.

So yes, no dates this year. No stupid activities, except for this; prawning, overnight. From 12 to 6am. I wasn't exactly planning to stay all the way but heck, might as well.

Yeah you got that right, it's pointing in the middle of no where, cause it's kind of new. So yeah you might want to ask around or use the satellite imagery to get there.

We caught quite a few!

It was really quite fun. We caught a total of 49 in the span of 6 hours. Not exactly record breaking but well, it was a pretty nice experience for me since I'm a virgin at this.

Even though I felt that this is pretty cruel, the adrenaline rush you get when you first catch something feels frickin' awesome. The down side to this is that I can't eat prawns (allergy) so I didn't really bother fishing for it. Though I tried it for a couple of mins (probably 20mins?) And caught about 4. So yeah it was pretty fun.

1/1800s f/2.7  Galaxy SII

This is definitely one of my favourite shots of the year.

Took this today when I went over to my friend's house to hang. The weather has been bright and sunny like this for the past couple of days, which makes me want to keep shooting the sky, but we all know how boring it gets over time.

Still, I still have a really good feeling about this one.

I'm also in a pretty good mood today thanks to getting an A for one of my modules. There'll be another 2 important tests, and 1 decently important one next week for me. Hopefully I'll be able to get the grades I've been aiming for.

Well, I'm going to write about a random realization I had when I hung out with P the other day. I'll just keep this short and get on to that.

Celebrated S's birthday, more about that in another post. Either way, it was fun and retarded. and we caught the sunset. Man, it's been really quite a while since I managed to bask the in the evening light from the start till the end.

Thankfully the first lesson tomorrow is cancelled so I'll be able to get my much needed rest. Tomorrow seems like another really long day. So.. well, let's see how it goes.

If you could tell from my posts or the lack thereof, I wasn't in the best of moods this week.

Maybe it was the amount of projects I'm having, maybe it's lack of sleep, maybe it's family/friends, maybe it's just a mood swing that lasted longer than usual. Either way, the end result is a unmotivated and lethargic me.

It ended being something that I said to my friend that made a lot of sense to me.
Everyone wishes that their lives were like a movie, filled with romance and action. Our mundane lives pale in comparison and everyday is just so bloody boring.

But I beg to differ. Our lives are way more interesting than movies but we just don't seem to feel it. If you think of your life as a school movie (cause it applies to me for the moment), we've had all the studying scene, we had the romance scene (be it fulfilled or one sided), we had the partying and getting screwed in exams scene, we had the slapped by life scene, we had the tear jerking graduation scene. I mean, if you just take out all the good parts from the past 4 years of your life, I'm sure it'll make a pretty damn good movie.

Anyway, here are the little things that happened this week that made me feel better. Starting with this picture that I took just yesterday.


It's my Galaxy S, reflecting off my school and the sky. And yes I had to clean it pretty thoroughly. Of course, the beauty is one portion of the equation, here's the little thing that made it so much better.



Well, it wasn't my finger just to be clear.

So the other little things are like the revival of Tako Balls and Glutinous rice w/ meat in my school, which I love to eat.

Oh, and I scored pretty darn well for a so called "English" module. Because I didn't want to get slapped by my friends I kept the score a secret, if you're reading this, then my first paper was 79, and the 2nd was 94. Yes seriously, 94. IDKHTF I did that.

Oh, and I met with friends I haven't seen for a long time yesterday, played badminton and chilled at Long John Silver, HI-5ed the guy at the cashier and got an $8 coupon in total for LJS.

All of that, including a good sleep, made me feel really great when I woke up this morning. It doesn't feel as good as the days when I wake up and feel glad to be alive, but I'll take any little victories I can anytime.

"The moral of the story is, when you feel like shit, chances are you won't feel good miraculously. Just count the little blessings in your life and be glad you have them."

TP-LINK WR2543ND

 First off, I finally got a better router.


Yeah I know there's nothing to write home about a TP-LINK router. I originally wanted to get a Cisco Linksys E4200, which costs $260. But I wanted the version 2 of it, which doesn't seem to be in stock. Considering that this costs less than half the price, I guess I could live without the extra speed and features.

That said, this is a pretty solid performing router. I shan't bore you with the nitty gritty details. But here's the main parts.

Up to 450Mbps theoretical
Dual band 2.4/5GHz

Blah  blah blah, the rest are too geeky. So now I have this pretty powerful in my room, linked with my older router (also TP-LINK) in the hall as an extender. So now I have excellent coverage in the entire house.

Also thanks to the course I'm studying I guess I managed to set up everything pretty painlessly. If I pick my laptop up from my room and walk to the kitchen, it'll switch seamlessly between the 2 routers and KABOOM! You maintain a >100mbps connection. (provided you're using wireless N)

The next thing I got today was this, 
Microsoft Wireless Mouse 5000


Now why did I get a mouse? Because mine died (Microsoft Wireless Mouse 4000)

The main reason I chose it isn't because that it's nice looking or if it has some technology that makes me want it. The reason why I chose it, is because it's huge. It's like a desktop class mouse so it's huge and it fits my hands perfectly.

That said the USB dongle is pretty huge but I guess I can live with that.

Thing is, I'm sick of holding a small mouse in my hands. It's annoying to not be able to rest your entire palm on it. (and yes I have relatively large hands)

In short I boosted my entire home network speed/security and that makes me very very satisfied.

Well, you know the types of people who don’t really celebrate stuffs because they don’t really see the point of it? I’m one of these people. I mean, it’s not like I hate it or anything, it just doesn’t seem compelling enough. Or maybe it’s the way I was brought up.

I mean like, to ask people to come and celebrate the birth of you is kinda, ehhh~

Still, like the saying goes, “If you expect too much, you’ll be disappointed. If you don’t expect anything, you’ll always be pleasantly surprised.”

This is one of the times that I was really pleasantly surprised.

My mum cooked quite a lot and I saw that it was good. Well, mainly due the the amount of chicken that was available. ^^

Well, that’s a lot for a person to cook within 2 hours. Seriously man, kudos to her skills as a chef.

That was literally the fireworks that I saw.

No seriously. Because we decided to celebrate it at East Coast Park. (man, how many times have I went there recently?)


Back to the "fireworks", they're not fireworks of course, they're actually flares fired off from the ships off the coast, which is pretty darn cool if you ask me. When 2012 finally arrived all the ships started honking(?) in cohesion.

It cannot be compared to the splendor we would've witnessed if we went to town, but since subtlety is our goal I'll say we achieved that pretty nicely.

Before I get too carried away, let me first wish everyone a

2012 came faster that I thought it would and very soon I'll be older by another year again, time just grips on my throat tighter and tighter each passing year.

I've been asking people around about their resolutions, but  maybe we're too old for new year resolutions, or maybe we know it doesn't work, but no one seems to have any. Of course, I could give an exhausting list of goals for 2012, but after thinking about it for awhile, I only have one.

1. Stop wasting time.

When I looked back every year, it's not that I didn't do anything significant to improve myself one way or another, but I waste too much time focusing on things that are not important to me. So here's to myself in the next 364 days, stop wasting my time, seriously.

Well, after some tweaking and testing and uninstalling/installing all the crap, here's the video of the awesome boot up.

Sorry for the shitty quality since I used my phone and no tripod and Youtube compressed it.
But yeah, I'm really impressed by it so far.

One question remains though, is it really that useful?

Well... in my case, yes. However, for daily use.. not particularly. I mean, at least not at this price at capacity yet. (unless you're just using this as a boot disk, but then you'll probably need a desktop for that configuration)

Here's why, I save roughly 2 seconds from each application that I open (daily). So if you add it up for the entire day of computing use you'll probably shave a couple of minutes off your day. Is it worth the couple of minutes? That's up for you to decide.

However! If you're like me, who needs to use heavy applications like photoshop, lightroom, VMware, etc. It's great, it saves you 10seconds or more on each of these applications. Those could add up very quickly, it saves a lot of frustration waiting for the applications to load, and worse, the sluggish performance due to the bottleneck of your hard drive.

In conclusion, if you have spare cash, buy it. If you use content heavy applications, save and buy it. If you simply do your daily stuffs (youtube, emails, songs, games) well, it's probably a luxury and you can't afford it anyway.

p.s. It does help with the loading time of games, but once you're inside, unless you're playing MMORPG or games with really huge maps that needs to be loaded, you won't see much of a difference.
